There are only a few places in India that can steal the allure of Darjeeling. After all, there can be only one Queen of Hills, ain’t it? A quintessentially Himalayan region, the hill station of Darjeeling is located at an elevation of 2045 meters above sea-level. A 3-4 hour ride from Siliguri takes you to the lovely ville-style town which is now a thriving city with shopping malls, popular food joints, and a bustling-than-ever mall road—the horizontal plane at the highest peak of the region. Early in the 20th century, Gangtok developed into a significant trading hub on the road connecting Lhasa in Tibet with towns like Kolkata (then Calcutta) in British India. Today, Gangtok is the capital and the most-populated region of the state of Sikkim. Much like Darjeeling, perhaps a bit more happening, Gangtok is a big city on a hilltop. With amazing places to visit like the iconic M.G.
